A Garage Apartment is a separate apartment / dwelling generally constructed above an existing or new garage.
Some of the characteristics and benefits of Garage Apartments are as follows:
- Are more commonly identified on properties which have rear lane access
- Require Development Approval or CDC Approval
- Create additional living / workspaces
- Are usually less than 60m2 in area
- Are generally accommodated with bedroom & bathroom only
- Have internal access from the garage and the rear lane
- Generally cannot be subdivided but may provide an additional rental income
